ART IN PRISON

The visual arts are used to increase confidence, self esteem and develop skills. The images below show artwork work created by women in HMP YOI Corntonvale as part of Artlink Central's 'Freedom to Create' Project.

FELT MAKING: Felted jewellery and pictures were created during an 8 week felt making project. One of group pieces 'How Marine Life Felt' won an award from the Koestler Trust and was part of their exhibition of work at the Southbank Centre in London in 2016. Photos and a blog of my visit to this exhibition as Artlink Central's representative can be seen here.

'ILLUMINATE' was a week long combined art & poetry project working with young offenders.  Participants took inspiration from traditional illuminated manuscripts and used various watercolour techniques to create decorative letters, back grounds and patterns to accompany the poems they had written. The artworks were put together to form a large handmade book, show below with details from some of the pages.
